Lintilhac Park

Located behind the iconic Stowe Community Church, Lintilhac Park is a scenic area at the start of the Stowe Recreation Path. The area has a few picnic tables and lots of green grass to sprawl out on. The Little River, which winds along the entirety of the recreation path, stretches along the edge of Lintilhac Park if you’re looking for a riverside view. If you walk a little ways on the rec path, there are many grassy areas that would be great spots to picnic and there are many benches along the way if you don’t prefer to sit on the ground.

Thompson Park

Thompson Park is a large scenic picnic area located off of Mountain Road (Route 108) and accessible via the Stowe Recreation Path. There are several picnic tables immediately within the large parking area and there are other seating options, such as benches and Adirondack chairs. The park is sandwiched between two of the rec path bridges, offering views of Spear Barn and Percy Farm in one direction and Mount Mansfield in the other. During the late summer and fall, the Percy Farm Corn Maze is a great activity for family and friends with the scenic view of Mount Mansfield as the backdrop. In the warmer summer months, Thompson Park has several access points to the river where people can dip their toes in.

Brookdale Covered Bridge

At the end of the Stowe Recreation Path, there are a couple of great spots for a picnic. There is a parking area directly before the covered bridge on the left, located on Brook Road (off of Route 108). Here you’ll find a couple of riverside picnic tables offering great views of the river and the covered bridge. You may even catch a glimpse of horses out in the field adjacent to the recreation path or a group tour ride across the covered bridge. If you walk a little ways on the rec path, you’ll find various spots with benches and areas to spread out a picnic.

Bonus: Mount Mansfield

Take your picnic to a whole new level and drive up the historic Auto Toll Road or soar up the Gondola SkyRide at Stowe Mountain Resort. Perfect for a romantic lunch for two or an outdoor outing with family and friends. Enjoy the scenic views on the way to the top and then enjoy sprawling views for your picnic. You will need to purchase tickets for the Gondola or pay at the entrance of the Toll Road, but a picnic is a great way to maximize your time at the top.
